Get Ready With Me - Second Cousins Christening 22/6/14

GRWM: Christening - Makeup, Hair, and Outfit

Hello my lovelys! Today was my second cousins christening and it's been such a beautiful day and really sunny and hot; and it was a really wonderful service and it seems he really enjoyed being christened, aha! Anyway guys, I thought I'd do a get a ready with me as I've wanted to do one for ages and what a perfect opportunity for it! I hope you enjoy :)

Makeup

I apply my everyday base which is my Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hour foundation in shade 100 Ivory. Next I take my Rimmel London Wake Me Up concealer in Ivory and I apply it under my eyes, down my nose, slightly on my cheeks and in any problem areas that I want to have more coverage on. Then I take my Rimmel London Stay Matte powder in 001 Transparent and apply this all over my face. Finally, I fill in my eyebrows with my eyebrow pencil from Primark in the shade Brown.

Firstly, I apply a matte purple/pinky shade all over the lid from my MUA Luxe Pretty Edgy pallet in the shade Sinful. And take it up above the crease on a flat shader brush. Then I blended it out with a fluffy brush which caused the top to be more pink toned rather than purple.

Once I am happy with my blending techniques I clean up around the edges to give my eyeshadow a more precise point (as you can see above). Then on an angled brush I take another shade from my Pretty Edgy pallet in Toile. I used the technique as if you're applying eyeliner around your eye and just kept building it up until I am happy with the amount of colour showing up.

I also took the shade, Toile, underneath my eye and linked it up with the corner of my eye for the same colour along the upper lash line. And this is the finished eye makeup complete.

Then I applied my favourite mascara at the moment, which is my Lash Extreme Volumising  Mascara (although I think I am going to buy a new one soon). I also highlighted my inner corners with the same light pink shade Toile.

This is the finished eyelook, I think it is so beautiful and I am so obsessed with it at the moment. It is my go to look right now as it beautiful and simple - can be used for a party or a casual look.

Next for me is blush and highlight. I used my favourite highlighting powder: MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter. I take this on the highest points of my cheeks, now my nose and on the tip of my nose, slightly on my forehead, my cupids bow, and my chin. Next I applied my favourite blush at the moment: Rimmel London's 004 Pink Rose on the apples of my cheeks and swept back up my cheeks slightly.

Finally, I apply my lipstick from Collection in Sweet Tart. Firstly I outline my lips with the lipstick colour and use a lip brush for this and then I fill it in with the lipstick itself. I also applied some pink lipgloss over the top and blotted it out a few times to make it less vibrant. And this is the finished makeup look, I think it's super pretty and feminine and super easy to do.

Hair

I am not a hairstylist whatsoever, I can only just about manage plaits and straightening and putting my hair up into a ponytail. But, this hairstyle is really easy and elegant at the same time. Firstly, I moved the slight side fringe part I have so I can pin it with a flower later (as you can see above). With the rest of my hair, I pull it all to the left side and do a classic 3 strand braid. Secondly, I took the braid and slightly twisted it so the small straight hair left over at the end of the plait (when your hair wont let you plait anymore) and held it in place and pinned it with grips/bobby pins. As I have layers in my hair, some parts of my hair didn't all sit in the plait so I just pinned them into  the plait with more grips/bobby pins. Lastly I took the slight part of fringe I left earlier and pin it into place with a white rose clip. That is this hairstyle done!

Outfit

Okay guys, this was my outfit! Yes, I am a bit obsessed with Mint Green this year and it has to be my new favourite colour. My black dress is from Newlook and it was £19.99.

My mint green blazer is also from  Newlook and it was £24.99 (LOVE THIS BLAZER SO MUCH).

My mint green shoes are also from Newlook (sorry for so much Newlook!) and these were £12.99.

My mum got me this bag recently, and you'll be happy to know this one is not from Newlook! This bag is from K&Co and it was £8.00 and was £22.00. I also have the same bag but in Nude.

Both of my rings were from Accesorize. I'm not sure if they still sell them, but the top one was £14.00 and the bottom one was £12.00. My nails are painted in Barry M's Sugar Apple.

My toes are also painted in Barry M's Sugar Apple.

Well everyone, that is this GRWM finished! I hope you enjoyed seeing a post on this and if you would like me to do more, leave me a comment on my Instagram at katiej0hnson or comment on this post if you liked it. I'm not sure what I'll be posting next, it may be another prom look for y'all. Anyway, thank you very much for reading and I'll speak to you all very soon!

Lots of love,

Prom Makeup Tutorial 2014: Number 1

Prom Makeup Tutorial: Bold Lips and Champagne Eyes

Hello everyone, now I am aware that some of you year 11 girls may have already had your prom, but I know that my school hasn't (can't believe my prom was almost a year ago now!) But this look doesn't necessarily have to be just a prom look. You can wear it daily as I wore it to The Fault In Our Stars yesterday (which was really good btw, go and see it guys!). But you can also wear it as an evening event as it is quite an elegant look and if you truly wanted to, you could wear it to a wedding or you own wedding! So, if you want to know how to get this simple and gorgeous champagne prom/evening makeup look, then please keep on reading.

Step 1: Apply your base as you normally would on any normal day. I used my Nivea Creme pot as my base as I currently have no primer. Secondly, I use my Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation in 100 Ivory. Next, I use my Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer also in Ivory; I apply it under my eyes, down my nose, and on any problem areas that I want more coverage over. Then over all of that I use my Rimmel London Stay Matte powder in 001 Transparent, Finally, I fill in my eyebrows with my Primark PS... Love brow pencil in the shade Brown.

Step 2: Apply a Champagne colour all the way across your lid with a flat eyeshadow brush. I used my Champagne colour from my Colour Couture Dramatic Eyes set, but any shimmery Champagne colour will do.

Step 3: Take a Taupe Light Brown shade on a blending brush and merge it with the Champagne colour that we just applied to our lids. Don't worry if yours is messy out at the sides because mine is, but we clean it up later.

Step 4: Keep blending the two shades together until you are happy with how they look. As my Taupe Brown was still very pigmented even after blending I applied a bit of my Champagne colour over the top of that to appear more shimmery and more focused on the Champagne colour. The Taupe Brown is mainly to give warmth to the eyes but it ties the look together nicely.

Step 5: Next step is to just do any clean up if you are unhappy with how blended it is. As you can see from my image above, I always like my eye looks to have more of a winged look because most of the time when I use eyeshadow, I don't wear eyeliner. But, to clean up the edges all you need is an angled brush or a flat shader brush with your face powder to just clean around the edges.

Step 6: Now we have the lids how we want them to look. Next step is under your eyes. For the inner corners I took that Champagne colour we used earlier just to highlight the inner corners and also dragged it up a little to link with the line of the Champagne shade on my lid. I also dragged it out a tiny bit underneath my eyes as you can see above. Secondly, I took that Taupe Brown shade again and connected it up on the outer corners of my eyes to link with the line that goes out into a wing; I just blended it out with my ring finger.

Step 7: Apply your favourite mascara and as it is a prom/evening look you want to have really long lashes, therefore, use a lengthening mascara. I used my Lash Extreme Volumising Mascara from Body Care. By all means if you would like to, apply eyeliner before this step and if you would like to as I know many girls at prom do, you can apply fake eyelashes if you wish. But as I wear glasses I never wear fake eyelashes.

Step 8: Now as it is prom, photographs are going to an essential. Therefore, you really want to highlight your face to make your skin shine in the photos and to have a beautiful glow. I used my MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highligher which is so gorgeous and cheap. I apply it on my chin, cupids bow, my cheeks and the highest points of my cheeks, down my nose and the point of my nose, and finally my forehead between my brows. Although the sole focus of this prom look is the red lips, you do want some blush to give your cheeks a bit of colour so you're not completely washed out. I used my Sun Kissed Metallic Bronze Blush also from Body Care which has shades of white, yellow, and a bronze pink shade. I just applied this on the apples of my cheeks and swept upwards towards the end of my face. By all means, if you want to use bronzer and contour you can, I just never do it as it's an extra step to me that I just don't need to. But also, as I used a bronze blush I didn't feel the need for a bronzer shade anyway.

Also, the key aspect of this look, the red lips. If you've seen my other two makeup tutorials you will know what I do for my lips. Firstly I outline my lips in the colour I am using with a lip brush. Next I fill in the colour with the actual lipstick. I decided to not wear lipgloss over this lip this time, but if you would like to, by all means, go ahead.

Step 9: YOU'RE READY FOR PROM!!!!

Everyone, that is the finished look with my wavy hair as I wore this look out. I love this look because it's simply elegant and so easy to do. I hope you all enjoyed this look and it has given you ideas for your prom makeup. But whatever you wear this to you will all look gorgeous and I hope you have an amazing prom night because you only get it once. Unfortunately, mine wasn't that great, there were a lot of things I would've changed looking back but never mind. If you recreate this look include my Instagram name: katiej0hnson or my Twitter name: omfgitskatiej

Thank you all for reading and the next prom look I will be doing is a silver and purple look which is a more dramatic eye look (which is on my Instagram already) and simple lips; stay tuned!

I shall talk to you all soon,

Loads of love and hugs,

- Katie

May Favourites 2014!!!

PINCH PUNCH FIRST OF THE MONTH!!!!

Hey guys, now I know I have been extremely bad at my monthly favourites and it is only because I've either had no favourites at all, or, only a couple and it wasn't really worth posting. But maybe now that it is summer time, there will be lots of favourites in the future as I always get loads of newer things more in summer than winter etc.

I am a little bit late on the whole TFIOS front, however it really is an amazing book! I haven't quite finished it but I am getting really close to the end and my favourite part about it is how it is written. I think it is cleverly written and it gives the reader a chance to use their imagination a lot more. There is just something about how John Green portrays things that goes further than other book writers. But if you haven't read this, I really do recommend it! It is such a good book and I really do love the characters, storyline, and the concept. I cannot wait to go and see the movie.

Second favourite of this month, is this gorgeous birthday present from my bestfriend Heather! And it is Katherine Pierce's necklace from The Vampire Diaries. For Christmas she got me Elena Gilbert's vervain necklace and now for my birthday she got me this one. I love it so, so, so, much! It is simple and beautiful and looks really elegant with a dress. I have pretty much worn it everyday when I have worn a necklace and I wore it to Nigel's 50th birthday party last night, I just adore it; The Vampire Diaries jewellery is just completely stunning and I would have all of it if I could!

This stuff has been the most life saving item of my favourites this month. Okay, so, I've been buying a lot of new shoes this month for summer and things and as eventually they always rub in different areas when I wear them a couple of times and this cream has helped them heal faster and speeded up the recovery process of the blisters I had. The worst ones were from my sandals as I got a massive one on the ball of foot and it was so painful as it was all fresh skin etc (sorry if thats too graphic guys!) and with putting the cream on it, the new skin underneath was healed in 3 days which meant I could walk on it without pain anymore. Therefore, if you ever have a really bad blister I recommend you buy this cream!

This has been a massive favourite for the month of May and it will probably continue to be until I run out of it! I adore this body butter and it is definitely the best one I have ever used. I was given it by my best friend Chloe for my birthday and it is extremely good. 1: It smells like strawberry Calpol (how can you not love that!?), 2: It doesn't leave your skin sticky like some moisturisers can, 3: It makes your body so soft!, and 4: It makes you smell beautiful. I don't even need to say anymore, just go and buy this from Superdrug and you can get it in other scents too!
How much I've used the
product

This was also another birthday present from my super close friend Charlie! This is Reb'l Fleur by Rihanna and it smells beautiful. When you first spray it on it isn't that nice as it is really strong but if you let it settle for a bit it smells beautiful. It's really light and floral after a little while and I just love it! I adore the bottle as already have Nude by Rihanna. As I have two of the high heel shoe perfume bottles, I am considering getting Reb'l by Rihanna which is the one in the red shoe outline.

For my next favourite I am bringing one all the way back from January! My other best friend Jess got this me for Christmas and I became obsessed with it throughout December and January. But then for a few months I kind of just didn't spray it as I had lots of new perfumes etc. But in May I rekindled my love for this beautiful spray! It is light and refreshing and perfect for summer if you don't want to wear a perfume you can just spray this on and you're good to go! Plus, it is in Mango and Papaya which is my favourite scent!

This has been another life saver this month because I have had a cold since just after my birthday and typical for me to get a cold in the summer. As I am trying to flush it out and keep my throat healthy with medicine and sore throat sweets because of the up coming 13 The Musical workshop! Due to me blowing my nose so much, the part just underneath and above my lip became so dry and sore and red and horrible. So I've been putting this on at night and in the day when it was super sore and it's worked wonders. As my cold isn't as bad as it was I am not blowing it as much, therefore, I am not wearing it as much, but it has cleared up the redness and the soreness under my nose wonderfully!

This next favourite has been a favourite since about March I think. I love this mascara a lot! When I first tried it, I didn't like it. I thought it was a little clumpy and was hard to separate the lashes, but it wasn't horrendously bad, so I kept trying it. The more I used it, the more I got better at using it, which made me really love the mascara. It really is a good mascara for the price as it does exactly what it says on the bottle, "Volumising x10" and it really does do that. It makes your lashes so long and thick and pretty. Great if you don't want to wear flash lashes to a party!

This next product is probably my most favourite of the whole month because, *drum roll please* ... I HAVE FINALLY FOUND A FOUNDATION THAT LOOKS GOOD ON MY SKIN! *screams hallelujah* You guys don't understand how happy I am that I tried this foundation as I have tried a few others and they've been okay, but not 100% happy with them but this one is completely different. It has the most amazing coverage I have ever tried for a drug store foundation, it goes on really nicely on your skin, it smells nice, it doesn't look cakey at all, and most of all, it really does last for 25 hours - exactly what it says on the bottle! You only need about 2 pumps to cover your whole face and the pumps don't come out too much, it's small pumps! Which means you don't waste loads. The only bad thing about it is, it is oranged toned which means around your edges of your face you see the line quite a bit. But all you have to do is get a really light powder and blend the edges out and it works wonders! But for the price of this foundation compared to some from brands like Mac and Benefit and the quality you get from this Rimmel foundation is phenomenal!
The pump
My foundation colour -
Ivory

Tip: It looks lovely with Rimmel's Stay Matte powder (not mentioning colours as everyone has different skin types and colour) and it goes really well with Rimmel London's Wake Me Up concealer!

Inside the dressing gown
(it is so snuggly!!!)
This is also a massive favourite of this month. I've not had this for super long, a couple weeks at the most, but I adore this dressing gown. It is the nicest dressing gown I think I've ever owned; it's warm, snuggly, comfy, it's long (goes to about just under your knee) and it doesn't make you over heat at night which is odd considering it is really warm and soft. But either way this has been helpful as it has been cold recently at night and also as I have a cold it has been a big help keeping me feeling well! Either way, I love this dressing gown and if I could make everyone buy one I would as you will not regret it if you bought one! And if you already own one, I salute you!

This item represent two favourites in a way; the actual shoes and the mint green colour! I always love getting new converse like shoes because they are comfy and cute and you can just wear them with anything. But the thing is with me I get a pair of shoes, wear them all the time and they wear away underneath, so I buy a new pair and the cycle repeats with those shoes and so on and so on. But I bought some new shoes which were these and I love them! They did rub for the first couple times I wore them, but after that they were perfect! Also mint green is my new favourite colour; I loved them so much that I recently got another pair but in lemon yellow!

The beautiful pattern on the kimono
These items of clothing have pretty much taken over my life this month. I only have three of them currently but I can guarantee you, by the end of summer I'll have at least 20! Anyway, Kimono's I have become so obsessed with them. I just love everything about them: the patterns as you can see are bloody stunning, they aren't thin but not thick - perfect for summer when you just want a little extra coverage, and if you're in a quite plain outfit and you want to spice it up you could just add one of these as they do all the colour and beautifulness for you! But Kimono's have been the biggest thing in May for me and probably will be the biggest clothing item of summer for me and many others too!

Next is these gorgeous heeled sandal shoes! I adore these shoes to the max. They did rub a little when I first wore them on friday and they did last night at the party I went to with my parents and Chloe! But nothing a plaster can't fix! I just love these shoes so much, they remind me of the shoes Rihanna used to wear during her Unapologetic era and they really are stunning. They have a chunky heel which means they are comfortable to walk in and you don't feel like your going to break your ankle even when you walk on an uneven path. I think white shoes are so chique and in right now and you could wear them for an evening out or a daytime event. They make my feet look beautiful and I just adore them!

Personally, this was an obvious favourite for me ever since I was given the ring for my birthday! I love how vintage it is and the colour I just adore. It is so cute and dainty and I just love it.

Another ring from Accesorize now, I bought this recently and I think it is simple and cute. You could wear it with anything and it wouldn't be too overpowering if you didn't want super out there rings. All this has on is little leaves and butterflies which I think is adorable. Once of the cutest rings I've ever had!

These shorts are my favourite shorts I have ever had! I've got a lot of shorts that I love and ones in the past the I've loved. But these ones are by far the most comfy and easiest to do anything in. You can just chill and lay around in them and it feels like you're in leggings because they're that comfy. You can do sport in them if you really wanted to because they're so stretchy around the legs and the waist. I'd recommend you all get some of these!

This item has also been a massive favourite, I got it a couple weeks ago and I've been wearing it for college and in the day time when I go out non stop. I find it's not quite a kimono and not quite a cardigan. It has 3/4 length sleeves and is really nice to wear. It gives that extra bit of cover up again and can make a plain look become a bit more interesting because of the big flower lace print! I have really been loving this a lot!

The final massive favourite of May and by far the best concert I've ever been to in my whole life, it is none other than my role model, miss Katy Perry! I went to the Prismatic World Tour almost a month ago (and yes the most on this event is coming you guys!) But it was incredible! She really knows how to put on a show and the few pictures here are how close Charlie and I were (right by the stage in the reflection section) Every set was just incredible in every way. It has to be the best birthday present I have ever had and I can't thank my mum and dad enough for paying for the ticket for me to go as she truly is the greatest inspiration in the world and she is everything I aspire to be! I love her so much more than anyone realises!

And that everyone is all of my favourites for May! May has flown by so quickly but it has been my most hectic month of the year so far, but so many incredible things have happened in May and I cannot wait to plan some more incredible things to happen in June and see what it brings us! Also I'd just like to stay thank you all so much who read my blog as I really do appreciate it! Anyway, I love you all loads and I'll talk to you very soon!

Loads of love and hugs

-Katie
